A shoplifter ran across Route 17 and into a brook after filling three rolling suitcases with more than $2,000 worth of stolen merchandise at a Paramus store, authorities said.
Maki J. Davis, 22, of Brooklyn, was arrested following the theft at Marshalls on Route 17 South around 11:32 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, Paramus Police Chief Robert M. Guidetti said.
Store employees reported Davis was systematically concealing clothing inside a large rolling suitcase before repeating the process twice, ultimately filling three suitcases, police said.

A 35-year-old Connecticut woman who is facing animal cruelty charges is now accused of targeting an animal control officer who investigated her by using a fake online ad offering sex, police said.
Melissa Mae Ahlgren, 35, of Naugatuck, was arrested on Thursday, Oct. 1, on three outstanding warrants. She is being held on $110,000 in bonds, police said.
The animal cruelty case began Aug. 6 after animal control learned that a 5-week-old puppy in Ahlgren’s care was seriously ill, police said.

A Long Island man threatened a woman with a loaded gun and bit her on the lip during an attack Thursday, Oct. 1, police said.
Ernest Naranjo, 22, of Westbury, got into a “disturbance” with a 21-year-old woman at a home in New Cassel around 7:30 p.m., the Nassau County Police Department said.
Naranjo initially bit the woman on the lip, then walked outside, cops said. But he quickly returned, kicked in the front door, and pointed a firearm at the victim, police said.
